Ever since Blair Underwood hit the big screen in 1985’s Krush Groove (oddly cast as then-budding mogul Russell Simmons), the actor became a fan favorite. This Fall, Underwood will star as President Elias Martinez in NBC‘s series The Event, which debuts on September 20. The character was originally written for a Hispanic actor, and the star recently explained that this would now be the first Afro-Cuban president.
The 46-year-old married father of three also covers the latest issue of Jet Magazine!
The synopsis for conspiracy-theory themed The Event seems simple enough: “An average guy stumbles on to a secret so big, even the president is on a need-to-know basis.” So we’ll be expecting intrigue, action and hopefully enough good script writing to keep the show on air for a while.
Meanwhile, Blair is working on two movies – I Will Follow co-starring Salli Richardson (Antwone Fisher, I Am Legend), Traci Thorns (Rent, Grindhouse) and Omari Hardwick (Dark Blue, The A-Team); and Homework with Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and Elizabeth Reaser (Grey’s Anatomy, Twilight movies).
