Natalie Portman has a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in Black Swan (which is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama), and a bit of buzz surrounding her film No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher, which hits theaters on January 21. She’s also appearing in Thor, which will undoubtedly be huge summer 3D blockbuster. Not a shabby way to kick off a new year at all!
Now the official trailer has hit for Portman’s home wrecking vehicle The Other Woman, which co-stars Lisa Kudrow, Scott Cohen (Love and Other Drugs, NYPD Blue), Anthony Rapp (Rent, A Beautiful Mind), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Debra Monk (Damages, Grey’s Anatomy) and child actors Daisy Tahan (Little Fockers, Nurse Jackie) and her brother Jack Tahan (Charlie St. Cloud, I Am Legend).
Based upon the 2006 novel Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, The Other Woman is about a woman (Portman) who struggles over the relationship with her young stepson. She started out the relationship with her husband (Cohen) as ‘the other woman’, gets pregnant and marries him… so there is little mercy on her from his ex (Kudrow) or anyone else for that matter.
As it turns out, Jennifer Lopez was originally cast in the lead role, but dropped off the movie in 2008. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy, Watchmen) was initially slated to play the husband, however there doesn’t seem to be any official news about why he left the role.
The Other Woman will be in theaters for a limited release in February, although that will probably change if Portman lands the Globe on January 16.
