This is the trailer for the indie film MOOZ-lum starring Evan Ross, Nia Long and Danny Glover. The story centers around a college student (Ross) trying to find balance between his strict Muslim upbringing and the different values he experiences at school – including hate.
It’s great to see Evan Ross take such a diverse array of roles, from ATL to Life is Hot in Crack Town to 90210… he’s definitely showing some range. Other co-stars include Roger Guenveur Smith (Do the Right Thing, American Gangster) and bright young starlet Summer Bishil, whose awesome performance in Towelhead will allow me to forgive the epic fail of The Last Airbender.
Here is the official synopsis, and you can watch the trailer and demand the movie for your city below!
Pulled between his strict Muslim upbringing by his father and the normal social life he’s never had, Tariq Mahdi (Evan Ross) enters college in a state of confusion. New relationships with Muslims and non-Muslims alike challenge his already shaken ideals, and the estrangement with his mother and sister troubles him.
With the help of new friends, family and mentors, he begins to find himself and open up to an Islam he hasn’t been exposed to. But when the attacks of 9/11 happen without warning, he is forced to face his past and make the biggest decisions of his life.
