In case you doubted it after seeing the questionable trailers, Will Smith hits a home run with his new film Focus. Any combination of smug humor, suspense, danger, romance, heartache, action and natural chemistry you can think of… Focus has all that and more. You could say he is “back” after some recent cinematic struggles, but never forget: Will Smith is a motherfucking rock star.
With a relatively small cast including Australian beauty Margot Robbie, Gerald McRaney, Adrian Martinez, Rodrigo Santoro, and a pleasantly evil BD Wong, the storyline in Focus moves along nicely. The fun part of the movie is figuring out the hustle… and just when you think you figured it out, you realize it wasn’t quite what you thought. So in keeping the audience’s focus on what they want you to see and hear, the players succeed.
Don’t listen to detractors. What do they know about fun anyway? The twists and turns in Focus are keenly balanced with a lot of good laughs, and it is pretty much the perfect date movie. You’ll enjoy thinking you know what’s coming next…
