In the upcoming feature film Frankie and Alice, Halle Berry plays a young woman who struggles with multiple personalities, and it just so happens that her other half hates her. We’ve seen the dissociative disorder theme in movies like Sybil (1976 starring Sally Field) and The Three Faces of Eve (1957 starring Joanne Woodward), however a character having a personality that is outright racist against herself is a bit of a twist.
Frankie and Alice co-stars Phylicia Rashad, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia!), Chandra Wilson (Grey’s Anatomy) and Matt Frewer (Watchmen). The film is directed by Geoffrey Sax, who also directed the Michael Keaton thriller White Noise and has two decades under his belt in Canadian television.
Will Halle Berry be on the radar for a second Oscar with Frankie and Alice? Critics love a good split personality, so it’s noteworthy that Joanne Woodward won for her portrayal of Eve, and Sally Field won an Emmy for Sybil. We’re rooting for Halle on this one!
Frankie and Alice is in some theaters in bigger cities on December 17 (qualifying it for the next round of Oscars), and will be everywhere in February 2011.
