Chances are you’ve already got plans to hit the theater to see the 2014 Godzilla reboot, regardless of what anyone else says about the film. You may have read some of the mainstream reviews already, damning this movie for various reasons. But if you loved Godzilla in black and white as a kid, and sat through horrible remakes with really bad scaling and no CGI, and still reveled in love of the great monster, then this Gareth Edwards-directed movie will knock your socks off!
As a longtime fan of the Gojira, I feel this movie will not only be worth your time and IMAX money to see, but it will also be a flick you won’t mind watching again when it drops on Blu-Ray or PPV. In fact, you might even be tempted to see it twice in theaters.
There is a solid leading cast in Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen. Even though most of the characters are just ants in monster shadows, they do engage in moments that endear you to them. But it is the stunning visual effects, cinematography, and incredible monster fights that really make this movie work.
2014 Godzilla has every element of what we have taken in over the past 60 years, just bigger and better than we’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It is, in the wise words of LL Cool J, “destruction, terror and mayhem” at its best.
