Has Joaquin Phoenix Gone Mad?! I’m Still Here Trailer and Clip with Diddy

After watching the trailer and clip for I’m Still Here (below) and seeing the physical change in Joaquin Phoenix since 2008, it’s evident that he’s either going completely mad, or he’s a far more brilliant actor than we might have ever known!

According to Entertainment Weekly critic Owen Gleiberman, the film earns an A- rating despite (or because of) the discomfort of watching 35-year-old Phoenix spiral out of control.

Gleiberman writes: “The Joaquin we see in I’m Still Here is a slurry, bloated shell of his former self, with taped sunglasses that never come off and unwashed hair that’s matted into crusty dreads.” Later in the review he continues, “That Phoenix’s handlers — and Casey Affleck — enable his behavior by never attempting an intervention amounts to an ethical lapse. Yet the film’s unflinching honesty is, in the end, its own justification.”

I’m Still Here hits theaters this Friday, September 10, and includes appearances from Jamie Foxx, Ben Stiller and more. My vote is that this is a successful, although not unprecedented, experiment in big screen method acting.  Watch the trailer and the awkwardly funny clip with Diddy below, and let us know what you think!
