Captain Jack Sparrow returns! Although Jerry Bruckheimer‘s production of Pirates of the Caribbean was originally planned as a trilogy, they have gone on to complete the fourth film, On Stranger Tides. Award winning director/choreographer Rob Marshall steers this ship, taking over for Gore Vabinski (director of the first three films), and Penélope Cruz takes the place of Kiera Knightley as Johnny Depp‘s fiery flirtation.
Unfortunately, Orlando Bloom will not be returning, nor will Lee Arenberg (Pintel) or Mackenzie Crook (Ragetti). New faces to the franchise include Ian McShane as the villian Blackbeard (Cruz will play his daughter Angelica), Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire) and veteran actor Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley from the Harry Potter films).
The rumor is that there are two more Pirates movies being filmed back-to-back after this one, but we’ll wait for the final verdict. Watch the trailer below, which includes a little intro from Jack Sparrow himself, and let us know if you’ll be hitting the theater on May 20, 2011 for the 3D experience!
