Here is the official trailer for Thor, which will be in theaters May 20, 2011 via Paramount Pictures. Chris Hemsworth stars as the Marvel Comics hero Thor, who falls from grace in his home planet Asgard, is banished to earth by his father King Odin (Anthony Hopkins), and becomes a defender of humanity on earth as his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) takes over back in Asgard.
Thor also stars Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia, Frankie and Alice), Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, The 40-year-old Virgin), Idris Elba (Obsessed, The Wire), Clark Gregg (Iron Man 1 & 2), Ray Stevenson (Rome, The Other Guys), Rene Russo (Lethal Weapon 3 & 4, Ransom) and Jaimie Alexander (Love and Other Drugs).
Kenneth Branagh is in the director’s chair, and he should have a good understanding of how to work with such a talented cast. Branagh has had starring roles in films like Othello (with Laurence Fishburne), Wild Wild West (with Will Smith), Valkyrie (with Tom Cruise) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; and nearly three decades as a producer, director and writer.
I can’t stand to write these words about much of anything, but it’s safe to say that Thor is ‘highly anticipated’. Chris Hemsworth has quite a different look than he did in his roles for Star Trek and A Perfect Getaway, and even in the trailer, he works!
The video game should also be crazy, so look out for more info on that soon!
Synopsis from ComingSoon.net:
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure Thor, which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans.
A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
There was a longer teaser trailer released internationally over the Summer too – you can watch it here.
