Ok, so public opinion on Lifetime’s Aaliyah movie wasn’t so hot, and doubters already have their thumbs poised in a downward position for the upcoming Whitney movie, but this trailer alone could change everything. Angela Bassett makes her directorial debut with Whitney, based upon the story of one of our generation’s greatest, and most tragic, musical icons.
The film stars YaYa DaCosta (also known by her married name YaYa Alafia), who may be best known for her 2004 stint on America’s Next Top Model, although she has appeared in a dozen films and several TV shows since then including Tron: Legacy and The Butler. Bobby Brown is portrayed by Arlen Escarpeta (Into The Storm, Final Destination 5).
