How do you make photos of eight beautiful women even more interesting to the eye? Just make them come to life! Photographer Tim Palen, who also happens to be the co-President of Theatrical Marketing for Lions Gate Entertainment, has put together a full gallery of the For Colored Girls movie portraits with a unique spin.

The stunning “live” talking photos feature actresses Janet Jackson, Thandi Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad and Loretta Devine as their characters in the film. Each portrait evokes the the poetry of Ntozake Shange‘s original stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Amazing!

If you’re in New York, Palen’s For Colored Girls Living Portraits will be on display at the prestigious Lehman Maupin gallery (540 W 26th St) from October 24 through 27, with Janet Jackson hosting the opening night event.

Tyler Perry‘s film For Colored Girls hits theaters on November 5. Click here to watch the trailer!
